Issue 55: July 2010
Welcome to the Edge of Propinquity. Issue 55 is now published. The heat of summer brings out the knife edge in all of us and family is at the heart of everything. This month we have a missing person, a person found, a person rediscovered, the discovery of family and the rediscovery of what family can mean.
Four Visitors – Trinity, Part One – by Rick Silva
It’s Senior Prom night at Danforth High. Tina Cronin and Nick Lorem are looking forward to a fun-filled evening of dancing and socializing. Instead they are in for an eerie encounter on a deserted stretch of road and the beginning of a night that the town of Danforth will never forget.
Solstice – Summer, Part Four – by Ivan Ewert
Michael Monroe – aka Mars, God of War – has stripped his mortal life of all that once gave it meaning. Now he searches out an old familiar face, one lost in the weeds to recent memory, but whose lackadaisical attitude may and must prove his simplest way forward.
Mnemosyne – Reach Out and Touch Someone – by Nick Bergeron
At last our Hero comes to it – my motivation for being here, my reason for existence. Tired of drifting like a leaf in a wind greater than he understands, he decides to fight back, the sweet boy. Despite my best past efforts, his first step in fighting is with someone else. Silly, silly, and wrong. His next step though, that’s perfect. His next step is me, and I’ll show him how wrong he is.
Sparrow Hill Road – Do You Want to Dance – by Seanan McGuire
For Rose Marshall, prom nights are holy nights, and observing them takes precedence over everything…even her own existence. Back in Buckley Township and confronted by strangers who could be either friend or foe, will she make it to the night’s last dance?
Guest Author – Skullduggery at the Junction by Jason S. Ridler
What do you do when you come to test the truth behind the Legend and find that there is more to the legend than first thought? Paul is about to do just that. He enters into a battle with The Strangler to discover there is more to his foe than just fighting.

Issue 54: June 2010

Four Visitors – Duality, Part Three – by Rick Silva Tina Cronin risks her life to save John Crowell’s artwork from enemies who want to make sure all of the dead artist’s secrets are reduced to ashes. And Nick Lorem is finally forced to decide whose side he is going to be on in the coming confrontation, as the second visitor leaves his mark on the town of Danforth.
Solstice – Spring, Part Six – by Ivan Ewert Since the evening of the Holiday Outing, Michael Monroe has struggled in silence against the heritage and history he bears. Despite the interests of outside sources, he has remained both neutral and unheard … until the last person who should presses the last of his nerves. What will come of the God of War in the Middle West?
Mnemosyne – Missing Volumes – by Nick Bergeron Our Hero finds true love at last, how sweet. That sort of love can help you find back against all kinds of topsy-turvy world shaking events, which is just what our Hero needs right now. Of course, I just can’t have him hanging around with any sweet young thing he finds. After all, he’s mine, and I’m coming back for him.
Sparrow Hill Road – Last Dance with Mary Jane – by Seanan McGuire It’s a rainy night at the Last Dance Diner, and Rose Marshall has no choice but to tell a ghost story–the only ghost story that she knows. The story that begins in the summer of 1945, in Buckley Township, Michigan, and ends on Sparrow Hill Road…
Guest Author – Agatha by Ken Staley Idyllic summers with old Great Grandmother Agatha were a treat. She was a woman from another age. Though, no one knew just how old she was. Nor did they know the secret she carried with her all those long centuries; a secret known as Old Smoke.

His friends have started to notice too, and Nick finds himself the subject of suspicion and scrutiny while his ex-girlfriend watches for signs of the coming of the second visitor to the town of Dansmouth, Rhode Island.
Solstice – Spring, Part Four – by Ivan Ewert Corbin Byrne stretches his legs in the Solstice spring, and in so doing learns a great deal more about the mysterious Mr. Schilling. Whether he passes this on to the Sheriff or not becomes a completely different question.
Mnemosyne – A Trip Down Memory Lane – by Nick Bergeron With time comes acceptance, and with acceptance comes curiosity. Join our Hero as he begins to explore the surface of what is happening to him and come to grips with the fact that his life will never be the same. Literally. His life is now different than what it once was, and he questions why and how. How cute.
Sparrow Hill Road – Building a Mystery – by Seanan McGuire Still reeling from her brush with an amateur exorcist, Rose Marshall has finally admitted that it’s time to stop messing around and get back on the trail of the most dangerous foe she’s ever faced: the man who put her in the grave in the first place. Can the routewitches steer her right, or will the Atlantic Highway claim her as its own?
Guest Author – Purgatory – by Alma Alexander A hard man in life born to a hard age but not an evil man. When a man can go to neither heaven nor hell, there is only purgatory and purgatory is not what you think it is.

Rick Silva’s New Story in the New Issue of The Edge of Propinquity
February 15, 2010
Welcome to the Edge of Propinquity. Issue 50 is now published. February brings out the lover in all of us. However, this month, one person discovers his love is lost, another discovers his love harmed by family, while one person’s love of sweets changes them forever and another’s love abandons them for years.
Four Visitors – Singularity, Part Two – by Rick Silva
Alex Lorem is on a mission. He’s tracking a mysterious girl with paranormal abilities, and the trail has led him right back to his own home town. With his goal in sight, Alex is not about to let anything get in his way. Not the incompetence of his partner or the welfare of any civilian bystanders. Not even if one of those civilians is Alex’s own brother.
Solstice – Winter, Part Five – by Ivan Ewert
Stephanie keeps Kim in the daylight through the harsh winter’s day, delivering food and goods to those most in need. On arrival at the hospital, however, an old and only half-familiar face greets them over the sickbed of Bacchus.
Mnemosyne – Kay Aye Ess Ess Aye En Gee – by Nick Bergeron
In which our Hero gains an inkling of the adversity he will face. It involves a pleasant walk in the snow, a simple phone call about someone long forgotten, and an excursion to an old haunt in the woods. I miss that old tree; it’s a shame that it doesn’t remember me. Our Hero is beginning to revisit the past; it’s enough to make me maudlin.
Sparrow Hill Road – Dead Man’s Party – by Seanan McGuire
When a dead man takes a diner full of living people hostage, it’s going to take a miracle to get any of them out alive…a miracle, or someone who doesn’t need to be afraid of dying. Enter Rose Marshall, who was looking for a cup of coffee, and found herself a heap of trouble.
Guest Author – The Fairy Cake Bake Shoppe by April Grey
When a corporate lawyer accidentally kills a fairy, her life takes a dramatic plunge into pain and anguish. She chooses to make an equally drastic change to right the wrong she did.

New Issue of the Edge of Propinquity Is Now Online: Includes the Final Installment of Rick Silva’s “Luminations” Serial
December 15, 2009
After four years, 49 stories (48 monthly installments, and 1 extra “teaser” piece), and four narrators, I am concluding my “Luminations” serial with this episode. It’s probably not the best jumping-in point for new readers, but the links to the old episodes are all there.
Hope you enjoy finding out “How It Ends”.
I’m not leaving The Edge of Propinquity. I’ll have a new one-year serial set in a new story world starting in January. Until then, I thank everyone who took the time to check out the “geek-noir” adventures of Chess, Nancy, Katy, and Mattie. Thanks too to my wonderful editor and my fellow authors on the site! Looking forward to 2010 and “Four Visitors”!
Volume 48: December 2009
Welcome to the Edge of Propinquity. Volume 48 is now published. The death of the year brings with it both pain and the promise of a new beginning. This month we have an awakening to an old purpose, the death of revenge, the cycle of love and death repeated and the end of a long struggle for control. This concludes the 2009 year for the Edge of Propinquity. We will return again in 2010 with new Universe authors, new universe stories and, of course, our monthly guest author. Thank you for reading.
Luminations – How It Ends by Rick Silva
Chester Hall is ready to go to war for the sake of restless spirit Mattie Ives. He’s got his strongest allies at his side, and the enemy is cornered. But Joe Tuckerman has one last plan to escape Mattie’s vengeance. It’s a brutal fight to the finish for Chess and his friends in the final installment of Luminations. How will it end? Mattie Ives will have to make one final choice in the hope that it will bring her peace at last.
Solstice – Autumn, Part Three by Ivan Ewert
As the Harvest Festival winds to a close, Michael Monroe comes face to face with an unexpected angel. She works for Mayor Long on a daily basis – but is her waking of Mars on his behalf, or her own?
Danyael – Revelation by Nick Bergeron
Everyone knows when they’re headed for the end of their story. A tense feeling in the stomach, the sense of falling out of control, the smell of inevitability in the air. All things come to an end, and no denial or acceptance changes this. There remains only to take your final actions and then take your bow in the spotlight.
Guest Author – The Letter by Michael Jarrette-Kenny
A poet travels to New Orleans to find inspiration. Instead, he finds love-perhaps eternal love. This could be both heaven and hell if of one or both of the young lovers are already dead.
