Westford Comic Book Show, August 2, 2009

Dandelion Studios with Joe McGlone and Josh Sullivan at the Westford Comic Book Show this Sunday!

Dandelion Studios will have a table at Larry Doherty’s Pop Culture Extravaganza Comic Book Show in Westford MA on Sunday, August 2, 2009.

Dandelion Studios will be represented by writer/editor/publisher Rick Silva (writer for Zephyr & Reginald: Minions for Hire, Stone, Kaeli & Rebecca, and Perils of Picorna) as well as writer/artist/web designer Joe McGlone. Joe will be there promoting his webcomic, Heroic Space Adventures.

We’ve also got a special guest at our table. Cartoonist/zinester/musician Josh Sullivan of Josh Comics will be on hand. He’s in town from Florida as part of a year of traveling around the country which he’s chronicling in his 52 Friends zine project. (I’ve always wanted to say something like this)… This will be Josh’s only New England appearance! Come check out his artwork and zines!

We hope to see you all in Westford this Sunday!

Otakon & More: Dandelion Studios in Baltimore

July 26, 2009

We took a ton of photos on our trip to Baltimore. You can catch them over at our blog on Gather.com.

Here are some samples, along with the links to the individual articles.

Friday Night: Art Cars at the Artscape Festival

In which Rick gets his Otakon badge, Gynn gets lost, and Rick gets a look at some very unusual sets of wheels. Artscape is a huge weekend-long festival of the arts in downtown Baltimore. There’s food, music, artisans, and street performances. The art cars were one of the many festival attractions.

Saturday Morning: The American Visionary Art Museum and Federal Hill Park

In which Rick, Gynn, and Judy Y.  get a nice view of the inner harbor and look at some amazing artwork in a building that is, well, shiny. The American Visionary Art Museum features some amazing works both inside and outside.

Power Ranger Cosplayers, Otakon, Baltimore MD

Saturday Afternoon: Otakon

In which Rick actually gets around to attending the convention and Missy sells her artwork on Artists’ Alley. Plus the usual array of cosplayers (walking around the halls of an anime con can be as much fun as attending the events). Missy Pena will be drawing Perils of Picorna for Dandelion Studios. If you missed her at Otakon, check out Missy’s work at zinmay.deviantart.com.

USS Constellation, Baltimore MD

Saturday Evening: Inner Harbor and the USS Constellation

In which Rick goes for a walk and sees the sights. The USS Constellation, the second vessel to bear that name, is a sloop-of-war, and the last fully sail-powered fighting ship comissioned for the US Navy. The Constellation is one of many attractions to be found in the Inner Harbor.

Dwarf Caiman, National Aquarium, Baltimore MD

Sunday Morning: The National Aquarium

In which Rick and Gynn look at fish. And cnidarians! Not to mention various other creatures. Photography is tricky inside the aquarium, but we managed to get some decent shots. We had a great time seeing all of the different creatures, plus the dolphin show. This was our last bit of tourism before heading home to Cape Cod.

In other news, it looks like we will be doing a table at a local show this coming Sunday, August 2, 2009. We’ll have more details here as soon as arrangements are confirmed. And watch this space for more previews of Zephyr & Reginald: Minions for Hire #3!

Missy Pena At Otakon

July 21, 2009

We jut got back from our trip to Baltimore to attend Otakon and to see the sights. We had a great time at Artscape, the American Visionary Art Museum, the Inner Harbor, the National Aquarium, and of course Otakon.

We’ll be linking the complete reports with pictures in a few days, but for now here is Missy Pena, the artist on our upcoming comic Perils of Picorna. I got to meet Missy in person for the first time at Otakon, and it was really nice to get a chance to chat with her. Missy is shown here cosplaying America from Axis Powers Hetalia.

New Issue of The Edge of Propinquity is now online!

July 15, 2009

Volume 43: July 2009

Hello,

Welcome to the Edge of Propinquity. Volume 43 is now published. The month of July is a month of celebration, barbeques and fireworks. We have all that at the Edge of Propinquity in a slightly different manner. This month we have an age old competition, an innocent lost in the woods, a betrayal within the ranks of the enemy, a man doing his best and another man who has had enough.

Luminations – Motel by Rick Silva
Chester Hall’s enemies have had a falling out, and at least one of them wants to cut a deal. But the chance to save a lost soul places Chess and his friends directly between opposing factions that see him, and the spirit of Mattie Ives, as the perfect pawns in their own power struggle.

Santa Maria – Strife by James M. Sullivan
Calliope not only finds herself lost, but in grave danger, however the effort to find her leads to further strife between the Chat-mu and the Ghost Lords. Meanwhile, Brady is sick over losing Calliope and Jackson Montgomery has a new ally.

Solstice – Summer, Part One by Ivan Ewert
In the first of three Summertime intervals, Solstice witnesses a quiet clash of age-old enemies which reveals more of the private Mayor Long’s personal history and arrangements, and learn what comes when a man grows too old to take himself too seriously.

Danyael – Try, Try Again by Nick Bergeron
When I’ve failed at something, I rarely go back to it. Then again, I rarely have an angel urging me on. I try bigger measures to spread the word, and finally decide that the world is dirty as Hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore.

Guest Author – All the Little Secrets by Barry Napier
Cecil has spent his life covering up secrets. It was his duty and his passion. Something has changed within and he has decided to break the rules for once in his life to see what will happen.

Have you ever looked over the edge and seen something looking back at you?

Website Updates

July 14, 2009

Things are beginning to come together here at the new online home of Dandelion Studios.

Our online store is now stocked with our two full-format comics, issues 1 and 2 of Zephyr & Reginald: Minions for Hire. You’ll also find a preorder link for the third issue (no release date yet, but we hope to have that soon!), and a selection of minicomics. We’ll be adding our remaining minicomics next, so look for The Bittersweet Battle Book, Michael’s Story, and the first issue of Unpopular Species to be added to the store in the next few days.

We’ve tweaked some of the front page functionality of the site. The “back”, “first”, and “last” buttons are tied specifically to webcomic posts, so those will remain inactive for a week or two until our first webcomic content goes live. In the meantime, we’ve added an archive widget so you can view past posts to the front page. So if you’re new here, click on the archive and go check out Tara Veidt’s interpretation of Zephyr and Reginald, as well as our very first Minions for Hire Issue 3 preview.

We’ve also uploaded the first bits of content to our links and events pages, as well as the first few creator bios.

Eventually, we will have bios up for the complete Dandelion Studios team, which at the moment consists of:

Rick Silva (Publisher, editor, writer)
Gynn Stella (Publisher, editor, writer, artist)
Katrina Joyner (Artist)
Amy Kaczmarowski (Writer)
Joe McGlone (Webmaster, web designer)
Missy Pena (Artist)
Tara Veidt (Artist)
Vincent Veidt (Colorist)

That’s the team. We are all grateful for the chance to entertain you with our work, and we hope you stick around to see some of the stories that we’re preparing to tell here.

So, what can you expect to see in this space in the coming weeks?

We’ll be trying out the site’s webcomic functionality with two comic strips, which will reprint the Zephyr & Reginald: Minions for Hire short comics, as well as two Kaeli & Rebecca stories that will serve to introduce the full-format comic debut of that series. And a little further down the road, watch for Gynn Stella’s SF epic Knifeclaw Company.

And continue to watch for announcements of show appearances, and the release dates for our new comics. We are expecting 2010 to be a huge year for Dandelion Studios, with the release of the third issue of Zephyr & Reginald: Minions for Hire, plus the full-format comic debuts of Perils of Picorna, Stone, and Kaeli & Rebecca, as well as the online premier of Knifeclaw Company.

We are looking forward to telling some great stories in the coming months!
